2001-2001 Activities
Hispanic Month (September)- During this month we have orchestrated announcements that were read on the school's televised morning news.
International Food Fest- Every year our big "money maker" is a Latino Food Sale.
Latino Youth Conferences- Every year Latino Pride members attend to this annual conference held by the State System of Higher Education along with many other Latino Group from the state.
Presbyterian Health Center on Valentine's Day- We made valentine's card and gave them to the residents of Presbyterian Health Center
Teacher's Day-During this day Latino Pride members perform a variety of typical Latino dances to the teachers
Halloween Parade- We marched the West Chester Halloween Parade along side our sister group from Henderson, LIFE (Latino In Full Effect).We also spent many hours making a banner that we proudly marched with and utilize to represent our organization
West Chester Fire Relief Effort- We collect money to help a family that lost their home in a fire tragedy in November,2001.
West Chester Fire Relief Effort Ceremony- We presented the money and the food to the victim.
Taco Eating/Salsa Dancing Contest- In a collaboratory effort with the National Spanish Honor Society, we hosted a Taco Eating/Dance Contest 50/50 for charity.Students showed their talent through Spanish dances and competed. Also, some staff and students competed for the fastest taco eater.
Guest Speaker- Raymond Fernandez(Kennett High School..Assistant Principal)
Diversity Luncheon- This was a way for the student leaders to welcome Dr.Dunlap to our school as the new principal, and to say good-bye to Dr.McFadden.
Latino Scholarship- Latino Pride is in the process of also coordinating and improving upon the a scholarship for latino students attending a 2 or 4 year institution of higher learning started last year(2000-2001)
Danza Tenochtitlan-Mexican folkloric dance and presentation of Latino Culture.
4-H speaker- spoke to us about the 4-H program in our county.
Organizations affiliated with Latino Pride-
Latino Pride has created two new organizations this year which include: SEAL (Student Executive Association of Leaders) and Latinos Unidos (a umbrella organization for Latino Students from the following groups: Latino Pride- East High School, LIFE- Henderson High School, and LASO- West Chester University).
